Located in Monterey County with a 22,000 ton grape capacity, Kendall Jackson Winery is the largest of its group of ten wineries in California. The 175,000 square foot facility is a production facility only; however, exterior design was critical, due to its highly visible location along Highway 101. The scope of work included a complete master plan and new facility design, including winery processing, barrel, administration, tank storage, and agency processing.

The exterior character is a visual reference to the history and industry of Monterey County. The forms include abstractions of Monterey’s Cannery Row, and also recall nearby Soledad Mission. Traditional gables, sheds, and towers, which dot the nearby landscape, were incorporated into the design as well.
A steel structure was used to obtain the 200-foot clear spans, allowing for flexibility in the barrel and tank layouts. The barrel building alone can hold up to 45,000 barrels.
